Kanye West在中国住过，中国的这个地方是南京，他是1987年小学5年级时跟随母亲Donda West来到中国南京，母亲当时是克拉克-亚特兰大大学英语教授，作为访问学者在南京有个交换生交流项目。

他曾在2011年接受告诉英国每日电讯报的Chris Champion采访说：在中国1年经历，让他开始要成为一名明星，那段时间，许多中国人从来没见过黑人，他们会一直来看你，盯着你，关注你。就跟现在的感受一样。我在5年级就已经是一个明星了。

I think being in China got me ready to be a celeb because, at that time, a lot of Chinese had never seen a black person. They would always come up and also stare at me, fishbowl me and everything. And that’s kind of the way it is for me right now…. I was a celebrity in fifth grade!
